Tsunatoshi is the third son of Izumi Kami Kunihide and the younger brother of Kato Tsunahide, a master of Do-ranba in the Yamagata domain. Born in the 10th year of Kansei (1798). He is said to be the Uesugi clan of the Yonezawa clan in Dewa. He was called him Kato Hachiro and also named Koretoshi. He learned from Suishinshi Masahide and calls him Cyounsai. He moved to Edo, went up to Osaka, studied under Suzuki Harukuni, traveled to Saigoku, and made swords in Kumamoto. In the third year of Ansei(1856), Chounsai was handed over to his son Koretoshi and the second generation Tsunatoshi, and his name was changed to Chojusai. He lived in the Uesugi family’s residence in Edo Azabu from around 1823, and died in December 1863 at the age of 66. His nephew was Ishido Unjyu korekazu, and his disciples were excellent students such as Koyama Munetsugu, Takahashi Naganobu, and Seiryuken Moritoshi, who established a major school in Edo at the end of the Edo period. Especially in Bizenden, it is said that the momentum surpassed that of Suishinsh school.

From Aoi Art:A word from Aoi Art: Chounsai Tsunatoshi excels in Choji hamon and Doranba hamon, but Doranba hamon was often produced around Bunka, Bunsei, and Tenpo era, but after that, many Choji midare works. You may have noticed the drawback that the deep Nioikuch Big Gunome midare called Doranba hamon is easy to break when fighting. Suishinshi masahide noticed it and chanted a retro sword, and many sword makers may have followed that trend. However, nowadays, swords to watch are preferred, and many swordsmiths including Sukehiro challenged it and competed for the result. This work was one of them, and many swordsmiths challenged Doranba hamon at the end of the Edo period. Suishinshi masahide ,: Chounsai Tsunatoshi, Kato Tsunahide, Ozaki Suketaka, Ichige Tokurin, Masashige, etc. were active, Doranba hamon is still a popular work, I definitely recommend this wonderful work that made a ball for Doranba hamon. increase.
