Sayagaki: Bizen Osafune Shigezane Ō-suriage. Blade length: 2 shaku 2 sun 7 bu 5 rin. Written by Dr. Kunzan in the third month of Showa 55 (1980). (Kaō).

This blade is ranked as Saijyo Saku among works attributed to Den Shigezane.
Habaki: Double gold-foiled habaki.
Blade Length: 2 shaku 2 sun 9 bu (69.4 cm (27.32 in)).
Curvature: 6 bu (1.8 cm (0.71 in)).
Mekugi Hole: 3.
Width at Base (Motohaba): 2.69 cm (1.06 in).
Width at Yokote: 1.91 cm (0.75 in).
Thickness of rim (Kasane): 0.51 cm (0.20 in).
Sword Weight: 540 g.
Era: Late Kamakura period.
Shape: A katana with a slightly narrow mihaba, substantial kasane, and graceful curvature. Double grooves (futasuji-hi) are carved on both sides.
Jigane: Itame hada mixed with flowing grain, with faint midare-utsuri appearing in the ji.
Hamon: Nie-deki. A predominantly suguha hamon mixed with angular gunome-midare. Reverse-leaning gunome, ashi, and yō are present within the hamon.

Features: Shigezane was active from the late Kamakura period to the early Nanbokuchō period and is said to have been either the younger brother or a disciple of Motoshige, with a closely related style of workmanship. This blade clearly displays the characteristic features of Shigezane, including its broad suguha mixed with angular and reverse-leaning gunome-midare. It is believed that the tang formerly bore a gold-inlaid attribution to Kagemitsu, but that inscription has since been removed. Details concerning this matter are recorded on page 142 of Kantei Hibi-shō, Zoku III.

Tsuba: Round shakudo nanako tsuba.
Fuchi: Shakudo nanako.
Kashira: Horn.
Saya (Scabbard): Black roiro-lacquered saya.
Menuki: Umebachi family crest decorated with gold iroe.
Kozuka: Shakudo nanako kozuka carved with the Umebachi crest and decorated with gold iroe. Comes with kogatana.
Kogai: Shakudo nanako kogai carved with the Umebachi crest and decorated with gold iroe.
