During the late Edo period, Gassan Sadakazu successfully revived this distinctive method after extensive research. It is also known that a few swordsmiths had already succeeded in reproducing the Gassan hada during the mid Edo period. Through generations of study and dedication, the Gassan family preserved the legacy of their ancestors, and the tradition was later inherited by Gassan Sadakatsu. This blade is an excellent example, displaying beautifully executed ayasugi-hada (Gassan hada).
