Historical Background: The 22nd day of the 8th month of Kanbun 6 (1666, old calendar) is known as the day the lord of Tango Miyazu Castle, Kyogoku Takakuni, was stripped of his domain.
On grounds such as violations of the Buke Shohatto (Laws for the Military Houses) and failures in the governance of his domain, the Edo Shogunate confiscated Miyazu Castle (present-day Miyazu City, Kyoto Prefecture) from Kyogoku Takakuni and imposed the severe penalty of seizing his lands as well.
Incidentally, Asano Naganao, the lord of the Ako domain, among others, was dispatched to take over Miyazu Castle.
