Historical Background: On February 28, 1558 (according to the Japanese lunar calendar), the era name was changed from Koji to Eiroku.
This change was prompted by several factors, including the accession of Emperor Ogimachi, continuing military conflicts, and a series of natural disasters.
During this period, Tokugawa Ieyasu, acting under the orders of Imagawa Yoshimoto, attacked Terabe Castle in Mikawa Province.
The castle was held by Suzuki Shigetatsu, who had defected to the Oda side.
This campaign is generally regarded as Ieyasu’s first significant military engagement, or his first castle assault.
Japan was entering an increasingly turbulent phase of the Sengoku period, marked by continuous warfare among powerful regional warlords.
