Hamon: Nie-deki gunome-midare.
The boshi has a slightly rounded turnback.
Features: There are many swords bearing forged Muramasa signatures, which can understandably make authentication difficult for collectors.
Unfortunately, we have determined that the signature on this particular yari is a gimei (false signature).
Authentic Muramasa yari generally have a relatively long kerakubi (the narrow neck below the spearhead), and their hamon patterns correspond closely on both sides of the blade.
The same characteristic can be observed in Muramasa tanto, wakizashi, and katana, where the hamon on the front and reverse sides is generally symmetrical.
If the hamon patterns differ significantly between the 2 sides, this may indicate a false signature.
Another characteristic to look for is shirake-utsuri, a whitish reflection visible in the jigane.
Please examine the blade carefully for this feature.
However, it is important to note that genuine Muramasa blades may also display hako-midare (box-shaped irregular hamon), and some authentic examples have hamon that have become extremely faint or almost invisible.
Therefore, these characteristics should be considered carefully when evaluating authenticity.
