Sesshū-jū Higo no Kami Kuniyasu. Made around the Kanbun era (1661–1673). Blade length: 2 shaku 3 sun 4 bu. (Kaō).

This blade is ranked as Jyojyo Saku among the works of Higo no Kami Kuniyasu.
Habaki: Single gold-foiled habaki.
Blade Length: 70.9 cm (27.91 in).
Curvature: 1.67 cm (0.66 in).

Era: Around the Kanbun era (1661–1673), Edo period.
Shape: A well-proportioned katana with a standard mihaba, thick kasane, and substantial length. A suken is engraved on the omote, while a bonji character and futasuji-hi are carved on the ura.
Jigane: Well-forged ko-itame hada with ji-nie.
Hamon: Suguha with active ashi. The boshi is slightly pointed and turns back in a rounded form.

Features: Higo no Kami Kuniyasu, whose personal name was Kobayashi Genzaemon, was the third son of the first-generation Kawachi no Kami Kunisuke and the younger brother of the second generation. His workmanship closely resembles that of the second-generation Kawachi no Kami Kunisuke. Suguha works by Kuniyasu are extremely rare, and this blade is an excellent example of that style.

Historical Background: The Kanbun era (1661–1673) corresponds to the reign of the fourth Tokugawa shogun, Tokugawa Ietsuna.
