This blade is greatly shortened (ō-suriage) and unsigned. The characteristics of the Yamato are clearly evident in both the jigane and hamon. In particular, the distinctive quality of the nie strongly support an attribution to the Taima school. It is an excellent example among blades attributed to this school.

Era: late Kamakura period
Shape: A well-proportioned blade with a wide mihaba, slightly thick kasane, deep curvature, a bo-hi, and an elongated kissaki.
Jigane: Well-forged ko-itame hada forming a clear and refined jigane.
Hamon: Nie-deki suguha with abundant nie and active utsuri. Kinsuji are present within the hamon, which displays a soft and elegant appearance. The boshi finishes in hakikake.

Features:
Taima is a school of Yamato swordsmiths that traces its origins to Kuniyuki and flourished in Yamato from the late Kamakura period through the Nanbokucho period. Signed works are rare, and many surviving examples are unsigned and have been attributed to Taima.

While signed works by Kuniyuki and others tend to display a relatively calm and restrained style, works with abundant nie, vigorous kinsuji, and other characteristics reminiscent of Soshu workmanship have traditionally been attributed to Taima, including in appraisals by the Hon’ami family.

This particular work also displays abundant hataraki, with ha-nie, hotsure, sunagashi, and kinsuji appearing throughout the hamon, clearly demonstrating the characteristic features of the Taima school.
