Yagyu tsuba are said to have been commissioned by Yagyu Toshikane, swordsmanship instructor to Tokugawa Mitsutomo, the second lord of the Owari Domain, and crafted by Owari tsuba artisans. They are believed to embody the deepest principles of the Shinkage-ryu school of swordsmanship.
