Hamon: Ko-nie deki suguha with tight and clear Nioikuchi.
Features: Kawai Kyuko was a swordsmith of the late Edo period, born in Tenmei 6 (1786) into the Kawai family, a hatamoto (direct retainer of the Tokugawa shogunate). He studied under Nakayama Ikkansai Yoshihiro and Shimizu Hisayoshi, a disciple of Hosokawa Masayoshi, and worked as a swordsmith in Koishikawa, Edo.
There are areas of carbon entrapment (sumigomori) visible along the mune and the cutting edge.
