This blade is ranked as Jyojyo Saku among the works of Omi Daijo Fujiwara Tadahiro.
Habaki: Copper and silver habaki.
Blade Length: 53.18 cm (20.94 in).
Curvature: 1.82 cm (0.72 in).
Mekugi Hole: 1.
Width at Base (Motohaba): 3.27 cm (1.29 in).
Width at Yokote: 2.46 cm (0.97 in).
Thickness of rim (Kasane): 0.75 cm (0.30 in).
Sword Weight: 610 g.
Era: Edo period, around the Kanbun era (1661-1673).
Shape: A well-proportioned wakizashi with wide mihaba, graceful curvature, and an elongated kissaki.
Jigane: Well-forged, tightly compacted ko-itame hada displaying the characteristic Hizen jigane.
Hamon: Nie-deki suguha, slightly wide with a deep nioiguchi.
The boshi returns broadly and extends rather long.

Features: Tadahiro, originally named Hashimoto Shinzaemon no Jo, succeeded his father in Kan’ei 9 (1632) at the age of 19, assuming the name Tadahiro.
In Kan’ei 18 (1641), he received the honorary title of Omi Daijo.
Until his death at the age of 80 on the 28th day of the 5th month of Genroku 6 (1693), he enjoyed a remarkable career spanning approximately 60 years, producing both suguha and midareba.
He was an exceptionally accomplished swordsmith.
Some of his blades feature magnificent carvings, although kenmaki-ryu carvings are generally attributed to Yoshinaga.
This example is a healthy blade with excellent jigane and is highly recommended.

Koshirae:
Tsuba: Round iron tsuba with openwork pampas grass (susuki) design.
Fuchikashira: Brass ground decorated with flowers and grasses in gold and silver iroe.
Saya (Scabbard): Decorative lacquered saya with an unusual finish.
Menuki: Drum (tsuzumi) motif carved and highlighted with gold iroe.
Kozuka: Shibuichi ground decorated with a plum tree and a figure in gold and silver.
Including kogatana.

Aoi Art’s Comment: Among the Hizen swordsmiths, the second-generation Tadahiro, who inherited the tradition of the first generation, is the most celebrated.
His jigane and hamon are truly outstanding.
His suguha displays a deep nioiguchi, and the boshi likewise exhibits a rich and deeply formed nioiguchi.
