This yari is ranked as Jyojyo Saku among the works signed Kanesada.

Width at Base (Motohaba): 2.81 cm (1.11 in).
Thickness of rim (Kasane): 1.02 cm (0.40 in).
Sword Weight: 635 g.
Overall Length of Shirasaya: 105 cm (41.34 in).
Era: Muromachi period.
Shape: A long yari with an elongated kera-kubi, indicating a Muromachi period origin.
Jigane: Well-forged ko-itame hada with a tightly compacted grain structure.
Hamon: Double-edged temper line with a notare pattern, active ashi, and a boshi that becomes irregular and turns back at the tip.
Features: There was a famous swordsmith named Kanesada during the Muromachi period, but this yari is not by that particular Kanesada.
Nevertheless, the workmanship is excellent, and because it bears a two-character signature, approximately ten smiths are possible candidates.
The long kera-kubi suggests that this work dates from the Muromachi period.
The quality is exceptionally high, making this a piece that can be strongly recommended.

Historical Background: During this period, warfare was frequent and most combat took place on the battlefield.

In ground combat, a fighting method known as katate-uchi (one-handed striking), in which weapons were wielded with a single hand, was commonly practiced.
