Wakasa no Kami Minamoto Hiromasa was a disciple of Tsuda Echizen-no-kami Sukehiro, a leading Osaka Shintō swordsmith. Sukehiro is known as the originator of the tōran-ba (billowing wave temper), and this work, like that of his master, features a finely forged, tightly packed jigane with a large, irregular hamon and tobiyaki, showing a high level of workmanship.
