Shape: largely shortened blade with slight crvature
Jigane: blackish Jigane with Itame
Hamon: Nie-base Suguha and Notare with Sunagashi and Kinsuji.
Features: This work is notable for the dark-toned jigane characteristic of the Uda school, along with Sunagashi and Kinsuji. There are kirikomi (cut mark) on the mune, and the blade as a whole conveys a strong sense of age.
The Uda school was a group of swordsmiths who migrated from Uda District in Yamato Province to Etchū Province. Founded by Ko-Nyūdō Kunimitsu in the late Kamakura period, the school included smiths such as Kunifusa, Kunimune, and Kunitsugu. Works made prior to the Ōei era (from 1394) in the early Muromachi period are referred to as Ko-Uda, while those made thereafter are called Uda.
