Historical Background: Around 1444, the first year of the Bun’an era, approximately 582 years ago, Japan was in the middle Muromachi period. Although society was relatively stable, it was also a transitional period marked by frequent peasant uprisings known as Do-Ikki throughout the country. In this year, the era name was changed from Kakitsu 4 to Bun’an 1. The repercussions of the Kakitsu Rebellion of the previous year were still being felt. Following the death of the young Shogun Ashikaga Yoshikatsu, Ashikaga Yoshimasa (then known as Yoshinari), who would later become the eighth Shogun, began to establish his authority with the support of Kanrei Hosokawa Mochiyuki and other leading figures.
