Description:
This jingasa is made of a wooden core finished with a dry lacquer (kanshitsu) coating and decorated with a family crest.
According to the previous owner, this jingasa was actually used during the Boshin War (1868–1869).
This conical style of jingasa, known as a Tonkyo Hat or Pointed War Hat, was commonly worn by frontline ashigaru (foot soldiers) and matchlock gunners as a practical substitute for a samurai helmet.
