Shape: Standard width tanto with bo-hi grooves engraved on both sides, possessing a beautiful sugata.
The tang has curvature.
Jigane: Fine ko-itame hada well forged with visible utsuri.
Hamon: Nie-deki with connected gunome-midare, becoming more distinct near the monouchi, and the boshi returns in a pointed kaeri.

Features: It is a highly ranked masterpiece by Bishu Osafune Kanemitsu.
Made around the Enbun era of the Nanbokucho period, the tanto possesses dignity and elegance, with inscriptions on both omote and ura sides.
Kanemitsu inherited the refined jigane of his father Kagemitsu from the late Kamakura period and established a style noted for its grand sugata and brilliant hamon.
He is renowned as a representative smith of the Bizen Osafune school and Soden-Bizen works.
His workmanship can be described as a fusion of traditional Bizen-den with the powerful influence of Soshu-den.

Saya (Scabbard): Dark brown lacquered saya decorated with a dragon design in gold maki-e.
Menuki: Round-shaped phoenix design with gold-colored detailing.
Kozuka: Shakudo nanako ground with a high-relief dragon design and gold-colored accents.

Historical Background: From the late Kamakura period into the Nanbokucho period, Japan experienced turbulent times marked by the establishment of the Kamakura shogunate by Minamoto no Yoritomo, the appointment of shugo and jito, the extinction of the three generations of the Minamoto clan, the transition to Hojo regency rule, and the decisive conflict with the Imperial Court.
