Dewa Daijo Fujiwara Kunimichi was one of the most renowned swordsmiths among the disciples of Horikawa Kunihiro, and is also said to have studied under Kinmichi.

He is believed to have been born around Tensho 4 (1576), and his latest works are thought to date to around Meireki 3 (1657). It is also believed that he received the title of Dewa Daijo around Keicho 19 (1614).
Like the works of Kunihiro, this piece features jigane with intense Jigane patterns with flowing masame-hada, while the hamon displays active sunagashi and striking kinsuji within the temper line, creating a magnificent and highly impressive appearance.
