The workmanship of this piece is ranked as the highest class among works by Taira Nagamori.

Era: the early Muromachi period, 15th century
Shape: Wakizashi in shobu-zukuri style with bohi carved on both sides; on the omote a splendid Shin no Kurikara is carved, and on the ura a sanko-ken is carved.
Jigane: Ko-itame hada well forged, with shirake utsuri appearing.
Hamon: Nie-deki, bright and clear suguha.
Features: Taira Nagamori was a swordsmith of the Takada school in Bungo Province. Although there are no dated works, it is said that two or three generations existed from around the Choroku era(1457-1460) of the early Muromachi period. According to the Juyo certificate, this piece is attributed to the first generation. He appears to have been highly skilled in carving, and many of his works featuring carvings have been preserved.

Although there are not many works from the Muromachi period that have been designated as Juyo swords, this piece stands out among the Taira-Takada school for its exceptional quality in all aspects—jigane, hamon, and carving—and is a valuable work that has been certified as Juyo Token.

Saya: Black lacquer with blue shell inlay in fuemaki style.
Tsuba: Shakudo nanako ground with narrative design carving.
Fuchi: Shakudo nanako ground with floral motifs and tiger.

Kozuka: Shakudo nanako ground with a design of birds with knife.
