Habaki: Double-layer gold-covered.
Blade Length: 50.6 cm (19.92 in).
Curvature: 0.9 cm (0.35 in).
Mekugi Hole: 2.
Width at Base (Motohaba): 2.27 cm (0.89 in).
Width at Yokote (Sakihaba): 1.98 cm (0.78 in).
Thickness of rim (Kasane): 0.55 cm (0.22 in).

Era: Late Kamakura period, around 1319.
Shape: Suriage mumei with bohi and soehi carved on both sides.
Jigane: Utsuri appears on the blade.
Hamon: Nioi-deki with saka-choji, boshi rounded and turning back.
Features: Chikakage was a swordsmith of the Osafune school in Bizen Province who was active in the late Kamakura period. He was the son of Nagamitsu and was called Saheinojo.
He was active from around the Kagen era to the Kenmu era.
Koshirae:
Tsuba: Shakudo ground with crane round design.
Fuchi: Shakudo nanako ground with paulownia crest, gold coloring.
Kashira: Horn.
Saya (Scabbard): Black roiro lacquered saya fitted with a leather protective covering from the Edo period.
Menuki: Shakudo ground with phoenix design, gold coloring.
Kogai: Shakudo nanako ground with three paulownia crests.
Kozuka: Shakudo nanako ground with three paulownia crests.
Historical Background: Major events in Japan in 1319 include the enthronement of Emperor Go-Daigo and the change of era name (April), as well as the founding of Daitoku-ji (various theories exist).
This was the late Kamakura period, when tensions between the imperial court and the shogunate were gradually intensifying.
