Special feature: A kankyu-tō (also called a bashin, horse needle) is a tool used to puncture a horse’s leg in order to release congested blood. They are mounted in fittings in the same manner as a kozuka and kogatana. This work is thought to have been made in the late Edo period. A Chinese poem appears to be engraved on the lower half; however, its content is unknown. Bashin (horse needles) bearing the same Chinese poem seem to be relatively common.
