Katana in Shirasaya with Koshirae (NBTHK Hozon Token)

Chikuzen-Shi Torii Satoyuki Ouju, Hizen Hirado-Shin Masamitsu Tsukuru Kore 筑前士鳥居覚行應需肥前平戸臣正光作之
Toki-ni Bunei Nen Tsuchinoe-tora 12Gatsu Tsuchinoto-Mi.
干時文政年戊寅十二月己巳

Translation: Made by Masamitsu, a retainer of Hirado in Hizen Province, at the request of Chikuzen samurai Torii Satoyuki, on a day marked Tsuchinoto-Mi (己巳) in December, 1818.

We divide works in to Saijo Saku, Jyojyo Saku, Jyo Saku,and Regular Saku.
This piece is ranked as Jyojyo Saku for Masamitsu.

Curvature (Sori): 2.0cm (0.79in)
Includes 1 Mekugi-ana
Moto-haba (Width at Base): 2.98cm (1.17in)
Saki-haba (Width at Tip): 1.84cm (0.72in)
Kasane (Thickness): 0.78cm (0.31in)
Sword Weight: 720g

Era: the end of Edo period, 1818

Shape: slightly wide and thick blade with curvature. It feels longer due to its tapering shape toward the tip.
Jigane: plain Jigane with much Jinie
Hamon: Ko-nie base Notare with Ashi and Sunagashi and NIju-ba.

Features:
This piece was made by order. While the hamon appears gentle, it features activity such as double hamon (nijuba) and small ashi. The jigane is finely covered with small ji-nie, resulting in an overall bright and clear appearance.

Koshirae:
Tsuba: made of iron
Fuchikashira: Shakudo base carved with a dragonfly.
Menuki: motif is unknown.
