The workmanship of this piece is ranked as Jyojyo Saku among works by Harima Kami Yoshinari.
Habaki: Plain copper habaki decorated with kiri and chrysanthemum crests.
Blade Length: 50.90 cm (20.04 in).
Curvature: 0.67 cm (0.26 in).
Mekugi Hole: 1.
Width at Base (Motohaba): 3.09 cm (1.22 in).
Width at Tip (Sakihaba): 2.22 cm (0.87 in).
Thickness of rim (Kasane): 0.72 cm (0.28 in).
Sword Weight: 545 grams.
Era: Edo period, around 1652.
Shape: A well-balanced wakizashi with wide mihaba, thick kasane, shallow curvature, and an extended kissaki.
Jigane: Ko-itame hada, well forged and tightly compacted.
Hamon: From the hamachi a suguha, then changing into choji-midare, resembling the style of Kawachi no Kami Kunisuke.
Features: Harima no Kami Yoshinari was a disciple of Yamato no Kami Yoshimichi and produced hamon in a similar style.
Koshirae:
Tsuba: Mokko-shaped iron tsuba carved with a design of rice plants and dragonflies, decorated with gold coloring.
Fuchikashira: Shakudo nanako ground with a praying mantis carved in high relief and decorated with gold coloring.
Signature: Kamo Ujiyama Mitsudo (signature unclear).
Saya (Scabbard): Aogai chirashi saya.
Menuki: Dragonfly motif carved and decorated with gold coloring.
Aoi Art’s Comment: A solidly built wakizashi.
The matching koshirae is also magnificent.
