The workmanship of this piece is ranked as Jyojyo Saku among works by Bitchu Kami Tachibana Yasuhiro.
Habaki: Plain copper.
Blade Length: 49.4 cm (19.45 in).
Curvature: 0.9 cm (0.35 in).
Mekugi Hole: 1.
Width at Base (Motohaba): 2.85 cm (1.12 in).
Thickness of rim (Kasane): 0.95 cm (0.37 in).
Sword Weight: 415 grams.
Era: Edo period, around the Kanbun era (circa 1661–1673).
Shape: A wakizashi with a solid width and thickness and a slightly shallow curvature.
Jigane: Fine ko-itame hada, well forged, with the grain clearly visible.
Hamon: From the hamachi a suguha, then changing into a rounded gunome-midare with variations in height; the boshi is round with a deep kaeri.
Features: Bitchu no Kami Tachibana Yasuhiro was the second son of Tameyasu, originally from Kishu.
He also lived in Osaka and was the head of the Osaka Ishido school.
He was a versatile swordsmith who made works in the Ichimonji style and also forged blades with gunome-midare hamon.
Koshirae:
Tsuba: Round iron tsuba carved with abalone.
Signature: Echizen ju Kiuchi saku.
Fuchikashira: Shakudo nanako ground with dragons carved in high relief and decorated with gold coloring.
Saya (Scabbard): Black roiro lacquered saya.
Menuki: Plants carved and decorated with gold coloring.
Aoi Art’s Comment: Bitchu no Kami Tachibana Yasuhiro produced works with active midare and also followed the Bizen tradition.
This piece is accompanied by a complete koshirae.
