Shape: wide and thick little long tanto.
Jigane: Itame mixed with mokume, forming a visible grain with whitish utsuri appearing.
Hamon: Nioideki Gunome midare with deep nioikuchi. Boshi is rounded.
Features: Kanetoki was an active swordsmith from Mino during the Tenbun era of the Muromachi period, known for producing excellent works. The tang features a higaki style yasurime, typical of Mino swordsmiths.
Koshirae:
Tsuba: Round iron tsuba.
Fuchi-Kashira: Shakudo base with high-relief carvings of river crabs and bamboo leaves, highlighted with gold.
Saya: Black textured finish.
Menuki: Depicting what appears to be musical instruments, with gold highlights.
Aoi Art’s Comment: This is a solid tanto from Mino, signed by Kanetoki. The jigane is well-formed, and the hamon displays a beautiful gunome-midare pattern. Although the koshirae is not of the highest quality, it is still well-made. This is a highly recommended piece.
