Features: This piece features a design of lions carved in high relief using the sukinuke-takabori technique on a nanako ground of shakudo, and decorated with gold iroe.
The Yanagawa school was founded by Yanagawa Naomasa, followed by his adopted son Naomitsu and Naoyuki’s son Naoharu.
Other notable craftsmen of the lineage include Naokatsu, Tsunekatsu of the Kikuchi family, Ishiguro Masatsune who studied under Kato Naotsune, and Kono Shunmei, a master craftsman and student of Naoharu.
The school flourished remarkably through the late Edo period.
