Shape: Slightly shortened by about 4 cm, but the signature remains completely intact.
The curvature is moderate, and the blade shows a well-balanced appearance with an extended kissaki.
Jigane: Itame-hada with prominent utsuri.
Hamon: Nie-based, gunome-midare with ashi in places, and a midare-komi boshi.
Features: Sue-koto. Wazamono. Medium grade. Yamato.
Kanefusa Hyoe-no-jo Masatsugu of Nanto was a swordsmith of the Kanefusa school.
He is known for producing a considerable number of large spears and jumonji-yari.
He is a well-known and popular swordsmith.
Aoi Art’s Comment: The hamon of Kanefusa Hyoe-no-jo Masatsugu is a gunome-midare with visible utsuri on the jigane.
The boshi is midare-komi.
It features fine sunagashi and kinsuji, resulting in a dynamic and outstanding piece.
Kanefusa Hyoe-no-jo Masatsugu of Yamato belonged to a group of swordsmiths also found in Ise, Bingo, Bizen, and Mikawa, showing many similarities in their forging methods.
