Shape:
wide, thick, and slightly deeply carved blade with long and accute Kissaki.
Jigane: Koitame hada with intense grain patterns.
Hamon: Ko-nie base thick and rounded Gunome-midare with Sunagashi. Boshi is midarekomi and rounded.
Features: Chounsai Tsunatoshi was a renowned smith of the late Edo period who studied under Suishinshi Masahide. In 1856, he passed on his name to his son Koretoshi(2nd gen Tsunatoshi) and himself adopted the name Chōjusai 長寿斎 with Chōju meaning “longevity.” He passed away in 1863. Judging from the period, this blade is likely a joint work of the first and second generations. It is a piece of great appeal, with a wide body and a robust thickness, reflecting a highly attractive workmanship.
