The 1st generation Hizen no Kuni Tadayoshi is renowned as the founder and the best swordsmith in Hizen swordsmith school. His swords are also known for its excellent cutting ability and has been designated as an ō-wazamono (great cutter). Tadayoshi was a swordsmith born in Saga in 1572. He once traveled to Kyoto and studied under Umetada Myōju. After returning to Saga, he served as an official swordsmith for the Saga Domain. He signed his works with various names, including Hizen kuni jūnin Tadayoshi saku, Hizen kuni Musashi Daijō Tadahiro, and Hizen kuni jū Fujiwara Tadahiro.
