Era: Early Shinto, Wazamono, Jyo Saku
(We divide 4 sections for each sword as Saijyo Saku, Jyojyo Saku, Jyo Saku, and Regular Saku).
This work is ranked as Jyojyo Saku as Mumei (Tango no Kami Hiroyuki).
Habaki: Double-layered gold foil
Blade Length: 49.4 cm (19.45 in)
Curvature: 1.3 cm (0.51 in)
Mekugi Hole: 2
Width at Base (Motohaba): 3.23 cm (1.27 in)
Width at Tip (Sakihaba): 2.88 cm (1.13 in)
Thickness of Rim (Kasane): 0.64 cm (0.25 in)
Era: Edo Period, around Keicho (1596–1615)
Shape: A stout work with a wide blade, thick kasane, deep curvature, and long boshi, carved with bo-hi grooves on both sides.
Jigane: Well-forged ko-itame hada with visible grain and intricate chikei.
Hamon: Nie-deki with small midare, extending into a midarekomi boshi.

Features: Initially attributed to Kaneyuki for Tokubetsu Kicho, but recently reappraised as Tango no Kami Hiroyuki. Hiroyuki was a disciple of Horikawa Kunihiro, skilled in kiriba-zukuri and designated as Wazamono.

Aoi Art’s Comment: The hamon near the kissaki shows small midare, and the jigane is quite prominent. Aoi Art suspects that the Tango no Kami Hiroyuki attribution by the sword museum might not be accurate. However, mumei appraisals are always challenging, and differing opinions exist. The difference between Kaneyuki and Tango no Kami Hiroyuki is substantial, prompting further investigation. If the utsuri were more visible, it would enhance the evaluation. Furthermore, this work’s robust construction and the noticeable itame and mokume in the jigane are atypical for Tango no Kami Hiroyuki, suggesting the need for more study.
