Era: the early Muromachi period
Shape: A wide blade with a thick kasane, slightly short kissaki, and a deep curvature.
Jigane: Well-forged ko-itame hada with a faint utsuri.
Hamon: Nie-deki with small ashi, forming a ko-gunome-midare pattern.
Features: Kagemitsu is well-known in Bizen; however, there were also swordsmiths by the same name in Kaga (present-day Ishikawa Prefecture). During the Nanbokucho Period, two main groups, Tomoshige and Shinkage around the Enbun Era (1356–1361), were active. Kagemitsu is believed to belong to the Shinkage school, with several smiths identified from the Nanbokucho to the Muromachi Period.
This piece has been identified as a work of Kaga Kagemitsu by the museum.
