Shape: Wide-bodied, thick, with slightly deep curvature and an extended kissaki (tip), showcasing a well-balanced structure.
Jigane: Koitame-hada with a well-forged, fine-grained surface, demonstrating excellent quality.
Hamon: Nie-deki, starting as a straight temper line (suguha) near the base, transitioning into a choji-midare (clove-shaped pattern) that continues beautifully towards the tip, where it sharpens and turns back elegantly.
Features: The second-generation Awataguchi Omi no Kami Tadatuna was the son of the first generation of the same name. This piece is slightly suriage (shortened), but the nakago remains intact. The hamon features a vibrant choji-midare pattern, indicating superb craftsmanship. Furthermore, the polish on this sword is well-executed, enhancing its already excellent appearance.
Koshirae:
Tsuba: Slightly large, round iron tsuba, decorated with gold lines depicting cedar trees.
Fuchikashira: Shakudo base with a design of Fudo Myoo (Acala) meditating in a bamboo grove.
Fuchi: High-relief carvings of clouds, river flows, and bamboo groves with gold highlights.
Saya (Scabbard): Black roiro (lacquered) finish.
Menuki: Decorated with a carved dokko sword motif.
Aoi Art’s Comment: This 73.4 cm katana by Awataguchi Omi no Kami Tadatuna is a healthy and well-preserved piece. It is the work of the second generation, demonstrating even greater craftsmanship than that of the first generation.
