Shape: A powerful katana with a wide blade, thick kasane, and deep curvature. Bo-hi are carved on both sides of the blade.
Jigane: Well-forged ko-itame hada with clearly visible grain.
Hamon: Gunome-midare mixed with choji-midare. An excellent example of the smith’s workmanship.
Features:
Okubo Kazuhiro was a contemporary swordsmith, who studied under Living National Treasure Miyairi Akihira and his received the character Hira 平 from Akihira. He received official authorization to make Japanese swords in 1967. After becoming independent, he received numerous awards and was designated Mukansa (exempt from appraisal) in 2000. Sadly, he passed away in 2003 at the age of 59.
