The inscription indicates that this blade is Ichimonji Yoshimune work that was shortened (suriage) by Inshū-jū Kanesaki. There was an original signature, “Yoshimune,” and it was likely lost during the shortening (suriage) process. Inshū-jū Kanesaki was a swordsmith who worked primarily during Edo period. This is a particularly interesting piece from a historical perspective. The blade features a beautifully refined jigane, demonstrating fine craftsmanship of Ichimonji.
