Features: Bishu Osafune Sukesada was a group of swordsmiths active during the late Muromachi period. As Japan was in the midst of the Sengoku period, there was a strong demand for swords, and large numbers of blades were produced in both Bizen and Mino provinces. Sukesada operated as a workshop employing many craftsmen and produced a great number of swords bearing the same signature. However, the workshop suffered devastating damage from the flooding of the Yoshii River in Tensho 18 (1590), which led to its decline.
