Works from the mid-Kamakura period are referred to as “Ko-Aoe”, while later pieces are simply “Aoe”.
Ko-Aoe typically feature suguha with small nie.
In the Nanbokucho period, the hamon evolved into tighter suguha or reversed choji-midare styles.
The kin zogan inscription reads:
“Kumo kata yake asakaze yuukaze no fukiharau koto no gotoku” —
This poetic phrase describes how the divine power sweeps away clouds that pile up in layers and the morning and evening winds, cleansing all sins and impurities completely.

Aoi Art’s Comment: This is a finely made work.
It is believed to date from the Nanbokucho period.
