Features: This work is by the 2nd generation Tanba no Kami Yoshimichi, who was also known as Mishina Tōshirō.
He received the title of Tanba no Kami in 1639 (Kanei 16) and was granted the use of the 16-petal chrysanthemum crest.
From that point on, this crest was engraved on the tang by the Kyoto Tanba school.
The first generation specialized in sudareba-like hamon, and the second generation perfected this style.
While most blades by the Kyoto 2nd generation bear the chrysanthemum crest, some rare examples do not.
Yoshimichi is known both in Kyoto and Osaka, with noticeable differences in the way the signature is carved.
This particular piece features a carving on the blade and has outstanding jigane, making it a very fine wakizashi.
