Features: This is a thick and heavy shakudō tsuba features high-relief carving of cherry blossoms and maple leaves, a torii gate, and a shrine building, all decorated with inlays. The rim is finished with a fukurin (metal rim covering).
The Kaga Goto school was a branch of the Goto family that served the Maeda clan of Kaga. They are known for producing ornate works with elaborate inlay.
The combination of autumn maple leaves and fully bloomed cherry blossoms is a traditional Japanese motif that was popular in the Edo period. It is said to originates from an old waka poem praising the scenery of Nara.
