Katana in Koshirae (NBTHK Tokubetsu Kicho Token)

Signature: Mumei (attributed to Aizu Kanetomo, 会津兼友)

We divide 4 sections for each sword as Saijyo Saku, Jyojyo Saku, Jyo Saku and Regular Saku.
This work is ranked as Jyo Saku, a high-quality grade among mumei swords attributed to Aizu Kanetomo.

Habaki: Silver single-layered
Blade Length: 74.0 cm (29.13 in)
Curvature: 1.5 cm (0.59 in)
Mekugi Holes: 1
Width at Base (Motohaba): 2.68 cm (1.06 in)
Width at Tip (Sakihaba): 1.61 cm (0.63 in)
Thickness (Kasane): 0.69 cm (0.27 in)
Sword Weight: 685 g

Shape: slightly thin and long blade with curvature and little short kissaki.
Jigane: Itame-hada with intense grain patterns. Itame mixed with Masame on the Shinogi-ji.
Hamon:Notare and Gunome with small midare with faint sunagashi.

Features: Aizu Kanetomo is said to have worked in Aizu for eight generations from the mid-Edo period through the end of the Edo period.
Personally, judging from the overall shape and the jigane, this blade gives the impression of a Muromachi-period sword.

Koshirae:
Tsuba: Nanban-style iron tsuba with openwork carving of dragons.
Fuchikashira: Shakudo base with carvings of clouds and lightning.
Menuki: Large dragon-themed menuki.
