Era: Edo period, around Genroku (1688–1704)
Shape: A wakizashi of ordinary width with rather deep curvature, well-proportioned with an extended kissaki.
Jigane: Bright and clear, bluish-black with small itame mixed with masame.
Hamon: Elegant Sanbonsugi, that is pointed gunome, with sunagashi and kinsuji activities inside the blade. Boshi midarekomi, pointed at the tip and turns back.
Features: Works of Kanazawa ju Darani Tachibana Katsukuni are often those of the 2nd generation Iyo Daijo Tachibana Katsukuni, mostly from the Kanbun era. He was skilled at Sanbonsugi, which is also evident in this blade.
Koshirae:
Tsuba: Round iron tsuba with sukashi-carving of a warrior and a pine tree, decorated with gold, silver, and copper iroe.
Menuki: High relief carving of bow, arrow, and a person, decorated with gold and silver iroe.
Fuchikashira: Shakudo nanako ground with high relief carving of a person, decorated with gold, silver, and copper iroe.
Saya (Scabbard): Black with spotted pattern.
Aoi Art’s Comment: The hamon is somewhat low, with long kinsuji inside the blade. A work that conveys dignity and refinement.
