Features:
Yatsukawa Yasutake was a swordsmith born in 1909 in Yamagata Prefecture. In 1935, he began forging swords at the Nihonto Tanrenkai located within the grounds of Yasukuni Shrine. After World War II, he studied under Tsukamoto Okimasa and continued his swordsmithing career, eventually being designated as a Mukansa (a swordsmith exempt from appraisal). In 1981, he received the Masamune Prize, the highest honor at the annual New Sword Exhibition. He passed away in 1983.
