This spear is ranked as Jyojyo Saku among works by Naoie.

Era: Edo period, around Kyōhō era (circa 1716–1736)
Shape: A robust sasa-ho yari (bamboo-leaf shaped spear) with a large groove carved.
Jigane: Itame mixed with mokume, clearly visible.
Hamon: Nie-deki with pointed gunome-midare.
This well-made work is accompanied by a Tokubetsu Hozon Token certificate.
Features: Naoie inscribed his name as “Sesshū-jū Fujiwara Naoie zō” and is said to be the son of Daidō Naohide.
He later changed his name to “Kii-jū Naoshige”.
This is a powerful and attractive sasa-ho yari (bamboo-leaf spear).
Unlike ordinary spears with sharp profiles, this rounded form resembles a bamboo leaf and is considered to have been made also for appreciation.
As this is a well-made work, we highly recommend it.
