This sword was made using special steel, intended to be rust-resistant.
As naval soldiers lived and fought at sea, iron swords were susceptible to rust, which is believed to have led to the production of such blades.
Now more than 70 years have passed since the war, and this sword holds historical value as a reference piece.
Although such swords were usually to be discarded, it is believed that this one was registered after an appraiser judged it to be historically valuable.
Most navy personnel perished with their ships, so it is said that swords in complete naval mounts are extremely rare.
Koshirae: Navy Gunto Koshirae – in exceptionally good condition.
