Era: late Nanbokucho period, circa late14th century
\nShape: slightly narrow in width, standard thickness, and is relatively long in proportion to its width. Bonji and a sword is carved on the blade.
\nJigane: Itame hada mixed with mokume and flowing grain patterns. . The upper half displays a larger, more prominent grain pattern with visible chikei.
\nHamon: Nio base a low ko-midare hamon with active ko-ashi with nie making soft nioikuchi. <\/p>\n

Features:
\nLittle is known about the swordsmith Bishu Osafune Shigetsune, and he is believed to be classified among the Kozori, a group of Osafune smiths whose individual backgrounds and lineages are not well documented.
\nThe hamon features a low ko-midare pattern running very close to the cutting edge, with evenly arranged gunome-midare resembling a juzuba (string of beads). The jigane displays particularly large and prominent grain patterns in the upper half of the blade, with chikei appearing throughout and emphasizing the distinct hada. This is a finely crafted and fascinating work.<\/p>\n
