The boshi also has a deep nioiguchi, enters midare, and becomes misty toward the tip, displaying the characteristic features of the Senjuin school.

Features: The Senjuin school was a group of swordsmiths active from the early Kamakura period, centered in Yamato Province, with some members also working in Mino Province. They are believed to have forged weapons for the protection of temples and shrines, and devoted themselves to sword production. In the case of this blade, an attribution to the mid to late Kamakura period is considered the most practical assessment.

Koshirae:
Tsuba: Round shakudo nanako tsuba carved with autumn grasses and autumn insects, decorated with gold iroe.
Menuki: Shakudo menuki carved with grape motifs and decorated with gold iroe.
Fuchikashira: Shakudo fittings carved with autumn grasses and autumn insects, decorated with gold iroe.
Saya (Scabbard): Straw-textured lacquered saya with scattered mother-of-pearl decoration.
Kogai: Shakudo nanako kogai carved with autumn grasses and autumn insects, decorated with gold iroe.

Aoi Art’s Comment: This blade clearly displays the characteristic workmanship of the Yamato tradition. Temples maintained armed warrior monks to protect their clergy and estates, and the Senjuin smiths are believed to have supplied them with swords. Sword production at the time was likely carried out through a specialized division of labor, with different craftsmen responsible for each stage of manufacture. The accompanying koshirae is also exceptionally well made.

NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon Token.
AoiArt estimation paper: Whole Oshigata.
Overseas shipping is charged separately.

Please note: the price does not include the shipping fees.

<img decoding="async" src="https://www.aoijapan.com/img/sword/2026/26256paper-1.jpg" alt="" width=“60%" height=“60%" /> <img decoding="async" src="https://www.aoijapan.com/img/sword/2026/26256paper-2.jpg" alt="" width=“60%" height=“60%" />

Ordering Number: AS26256 Katana in Shirasaya with Koshirae (NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon Token) Signature: Mumei (Senjuin) 無銘(千手院) (We divide 4 sections for each sword as Saijyo Saku, Jyojyo Saku, Jyo Saku and Regular Saku).
