Features: The signature on this tanto is unquestionably genuine.
\nThere are some minor old blemishes, but we believe it is a respectable piece overall.
\nThe nakago has one mekugi-ana and is signed “Bishu Osafune Sukesada Saku,” along with the date “A date in August, 1582 (Tensho 10).”<\/p>\n

Aoi Art’s Comment: This tanto was made in the late Muromachi period, during the Azuchi-Momoyama era, and is a work of 483 years ago.<\/p>\n

Historical Background: On June 2, 1582 (Tensho 10), the Honno-ji Incident took place, in which Oda Nobunaga was forced to take his own life at Honno-ji Temple following the rebellion of his retainer Akechi Mitsuhide.<\/p>\n
