Features: The Yamato Tegai School is believed to have originated from swordsmiths who lived outside the Tengai Gate, located in front of Todai-ji Temple in Nara, and who were likely affiliated with the temple.
\nDuring this period, the powerful temples of Nara maintained armed forces, and the principal Yamato schools\u2014including Hosho, Taima, Shikkake, Tegai, and Senjuin\u2014each served a different temple.
\nThe founder of the Tegai School is traditionally regarded as Kanenaga, who was active during the mid-Kamakura period.
\nAmong the Yamato traditions, the Tegai School flourished the most and is distinguished by strong nie, together with bright and vividly refined jigane.<\/p>\n
