Era: late Edo period, 1839 <\/p>\n

Shape: wide, thick blade with deep curvature.
\nJigane: fine koitame hada looks plain surface with Utsuri-like Nie.
\nHamon: Gunoeme-midare with tight nioikuchi with much Sunagashi and Kinsuji. Boshi is midare and turns back. <\/p>\n

Features:
\nJir\u014dtar\u014d Naokatsu was a swordsmith born in Yamagata. He moved to Edo and studied under Naotane, who was also from Yamagata. He subsequently married Naotane’s daughter and became his adopted heir. Like his master, Naokatsu was retained by the Akimoto family, the lord of Yamagata clan.
\nIt is believed that during Naotane’s later years, Naokatsu produced many substitute works on his behalf. Naotane passed away in 1858, and Naokatsu died the following year. As a result, relatively few works by Naokatsu are known today.<\/p>\n
