\nHabaki: Single-layer gold-covered habaki.
\nBlade Length: 63.94 cm (25.17 in).
\nCurvature: 1.52 cm (0.60 in).
\nMekugi Hole: 2.
\nWidth at Base (Motohaba): 3.22 cm (1.27 in).

\nShape: This blade closely resembles the work of Kanemitsu, with a notably large boshi, and is considered to date from around the Joji era of the Nanbokucho period.
\nJigane: Finely forged steel with prominent utsuri.
\nThe omote is carved with a kenmaki-ryu entwined around a ken, a dokko, and a bohi with soehi in the upper section.
\nThe ura is carved with a bohi and soehi together with a bonji.
\nHamon: A rather compact gunome-midare.
\nThe boshi is executed in the style characteristic of Kanemitsu.<\/p>\n

Features: Masamitsu was a disciple of Kanemitsu and produced works from around the Enbun era through the Oei era during the Nanbokucho period.
\nThis blade displays tightly forged ko-itame hada with excellent utsuri.
\nMost noteworthy are the carvings on the blade, which appear to be contemporary with its original manufacture.
\nAccording to Fujishiro’s reference work, there are examples of Kanemitsu-style blades bearing kenmaki-ryu carvings.
\nThis is an old blade with magnificent carvings and is highly recommended.<\/p>\n

Historical Background: The Joji era (1362-1368) belongs to the latter half of the Nanbokucho period.
\nOne of the most significant events of the era was the Joji Incident of 1366, an internal power struggle within the Muromachi Shogunate.
\nShiba Yoshiyuki and his father Takatsune, who held immense political authority, were suddenly removed from power by Shogun Ashikaga Yoshiakira in what is regarded as a political coup.
\nTheir downfall is generally attributed to growing opposition against their concentration of power.<\/p>\n
