\nThis blade is ranked as Jyojyo Saku among the works of Yamakimi Seimon Shokuz\u014d Moritoshi.
\nHabaki: Single-layer gold-covered habaki.
\nBlade Length: 68.78 cm (27.08 in).
\nCurvature: 1.97 cm (0.78 in).
\nMekugi Hole: 1.
\nWidth at Base (Motohaba): 3.00 cm (1.18 in).
\nWidth at Yokote: 2.92 cm (1.15 in).
\nThickness of rim (Kasane): 0.70 cm (0.28 in).
\nSword Weight: 665 g.
\nEra: Edo period, around the Ansei era (1854-1860).
\nShape: Standard width and thickness with relatively deep curvature and an elongated kissaki, resulting in an excellent overall shape.
\nThe original cutting edge remains intact.
\nA bohi accompanied by soehi is carved into the blade.
\nJigane: Fine ko-itame hada, nearly muji-hada in appearance, producing a beautiful steel surface.
\nHamon: Gunome-midare with kinsuji appearing in places.
\nThe boshi continues into an irregular midare pattern.<\/p>\n

Features: Moritoshi usually signed his works \u201cB\u014dsh\u016b Iwakuni-j\u016b Iwamoto Seiemon Moritoshi Z\u014d.\u201d
\nThis Seiry\u016bken Moritoshi was a trusted disciple of Ch\u014dunsai.
\nIt is said that the second-generation Ch\u014dunsai Tsunatoshi studied at the home of Seiry\u016bken Moritoshi.
\nHe was also skilled in blade carvings and used a distinctive tang shape known as a Kaga-style nakago.<\/p>\n

Koshirae:
\nTsuba: Vertically oval tsuba with openwork omodaka (arrowhead plant) design and gold inlay.
\nSigned: Ch\u014dsh\u016b-j\u016b Tomokata.
\nFuchikashira: Shakudo nanako ground with high-relief grass motifs highlighted with gold iroe.
\nSaya (Scabbard): Black saya finished with angular facets rather than a completely round profile.
\nMenuki: Plant motifs carved on shakudo ground with gold iroe.<\/p>\n

Aoi Art\u2019s Comment: This sword has a very practical and easy-to-handle shape.
\nA polisher whom I knew well owned a Seiry\u016bken Moritoshi blade.
\nIt was a relatively short sword, and he carried it with him when he went off to war.
\nI still remember how he often spoke about fighting after boarding enemy vessels.
\nLater in life, he wrote novels and continued polishing swords while living with his wife.
\nHe has since passed away, but whenever I see a Seiry\u016bken Moritoshi blade, I am reminded of him.<\/p>\n
